Q&A WITH UHL'S BREWING COMPANY

In March 2020, this Boulder, CO brewing company opened its doors in arguably one of the weirdest times to open...pretty much anything. However, with a whole lot of drive, awesome beers and a great community, Uhl's Brewing Company is celebrating one year in business and we couldn't be more thrilled to learn more about this spot, their history and what makes them dope. Owner
Aaron Uhl gave us the lowdown.

Q. WHAT'S YOUR NAME?

A. Aaron Uhl

Q. WHAT IS YOUR TITLE?

A. Owner

Q. HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THE NAME OF YOUR BREWERY?

A: We dug through the internet and trademark websites. Coming up with dead ends on marketing and names that were already spoken for, we looked up Uhl’s Brewing Co. We were pleasantly surprised to see that no one was using the name anymore, but also found out that brewing in the Uhl family goes back to 1856. Mathias Uhl Brewery, passed hands until it ended up as Uhl’s Brewery and went defunct in 1942. We did a little research and found that we are distantly related to the Uhl’s Brewing ancestors in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. So we decided to rekindle that flame and open Uhl’s Brewing Co in 2020.

Q. WHAT BEER/BRANDS INSPIRED YOU IN CREATING YOUR OWN BRAND?

A. In 2008, I had the privilege of trying a Goose Island Bourbon County Stout. In 2010, I started homebrewing and in December that year, I had my first bourbon barrel delivered and filled promptly thereafter. The rest is history from there.

Q. WHAT IS YOUR BREWERY MOST KNOWN FOR?

A. We are known for our pastry sours and pastry stouts. Bold barrel aged imperial stouts and ales as well as having a good selection of hazy IPA on hand at all times.

Q. THE ALIENS HAVE FINALLY HAD ENOUGH, YOU GET ONE LAST ITEM FROM YOUR BREWERY'S MENU BEFORE THEY EVAPORATE EARTH. WHAT IS IT?

A. Our Sausage and Pepperoni pizza pie and a fresh nail sample from my most coveted bourbon barrel.

Q. WHAT BEERS ARE IN YOUR FRIDGE RIGHT NOW?

A. Wild Turkey 101

Q. WHAT IS YOUR GUILTY PLEASURE BEER(S)?

A. Bourbon barrel aged imperial anything!

Q. WHAT DID YOU DO BEFORE YOU GOT INTO BEER?

A. I worked and competed in the cycling industry for 31 years. After that long it was time for me to make my move and start Uhl’s.
